🐾 New Dog & Cat Bylaw – Now in Effect 🐾Bylaw No. 2026-03 | District of KatepwaCouncil has adopted a new Animal Control Bylaw to provide clearer, fairer rules around dogs and cats in our community. This bylaw replaces the previous version and focuses on safety, respect, and responsible pet ownership.Key things residents should know:🐕 No running at largeDogs and cats must be under control at all times when off the owner’s property.🦮 Physical leashes are requiredOwners must carry a physical leash when their pet is off their property.Remote or electronic leashes can be used as a training aid, but they do not replace a physical leash when an animal needs to be secured.👥 Passing people or other animalsWhen approaching or passing someone (or another animal), pets must be immediately secured, including being physically leashed to prevent contact.💩 Clean-up is mandatoryOwners must pick up and properly dispose of pet waste:On public or private property (other than their own)On their own property regularlyBagged waste must go in a garbage receptacle — not left on trails, roads, or parkland.⚠️ Fines for non-compliance1st offence: $1002nd offence: $2503rd & subsequent offences: $500(Each day an offence continues counts as a separate offence).This bylaw is about keeping shared spaces safe, preventing unwanted encounters, and setting clear expectations for everyone.📄 The full bylaw is available on the District website. ...
